MICRO CURRENT PATCH

Micro current therapy has been used on equines for twenty plus years with thousands of horses treated with great success. Used for sore muscles, tendon and ligament injuries, abscesses, laminitis, splints, sore shins, swollen legs, confounding lameness problems, any area with pain or inflammation.

Some of the Attributes of Micro-Current Therapy include

• Reduced Pain and Inflammation
• Increased Cell Transport
• Increased Production of ATP
• Helps prevent the formation of unwanted Adhesions
• Reduced overall Healing Time

How Does it Work?

Two electrodes are connected by a fine 9” wire. One electrode contains a small battery that produces 25 µa (micro amps) lasting 200 to 500 Hrs. The electrode turns on when applied to the skin and verifies it’s on with a tiny red light. Detached, the patch automatically turns off! The Micro-current Patch can be stored in its packet and be reused as needed.

Preparation is simple.

Wet the area to be treated, then put a small amount of conductive gel on the electrodes, then apply. For legs, affix with a light colored vet wrap so the LED light shows through. For other body parts secure with masking or duct tape. The light should be checked daily to be sure it’s on. The Red Light tells you it’s ON.

Questions about the
Micro-Current Patch

Q. Is micro-current therapy safe to use during competition?

Yes. It is completely free of drugs, herbs or any other substance.

Q. How does micro-current compare with a TENS unit?

Common Tens units are usually milliamperage devices that may interfere with the healing process. Micro-current is lower amperage that has been scientifically proven to both alleviate pain and facilitate faster healing.

Q. Are there any side effects?

No

Q. Will my horse feel the micro-current?

No, the current is too low.

Q. Is the patch affected by heat or cold?

No.

Q. How do I know that it’s working?

The red light will be on.

Q. How long does the patch last?

It lasts between 200-500 hours.  As long as the red light is ON, the battery is still working.

Q. How often do I need to re-apply?

It’s recommended that you re-apply the patch every 24 hours, adding more water and gel. But, there is no time limit in regards to “how many days” you can re-apply it.

Q. Can you give me examples of when to use the micro current patch?

  • Splints, to facilitate the healing process, in conjunction with ice and other therapy.
  • Constricted annular ligaments (wind puffs), to improve blood flow and reduce swelling
  • Soft tissue injuries- Both acute and long term lay offs.  Suspensory and tendon injuries will “potentially” heal more quickly and have less adhesions by using micro current therapy.  We recommend a veterinarian diagnosis if one of these injuries is suspected.
  • Swollen legs- Reduces heat and swelling out
  • Hoof Absess – will help reduce pain and increase circulation
  • When hauling long distances, the micro current will encourage good circulation.
  • Horse Shows - wrap the legs at night to enhance good circulation and fresh legs for the next day (use in place of poultice to keep swelling down).
  • Do I have to have a prescription?
  • No, however, do not use the patch In place of taking your horse to your veterinarian, when the situation dictates.  We are happy to call your veterinarian to discuss if the patch might be able to work within their treatment plan.

Q. What is the shelf life?

At least two years (as long as the battery is still active).

Q.  I ride endurance horses. Can I carry the micro-patch with me?

It is ideal for carrying with you on horseback, since it’s light and small.
